Author Ildikó von Kürthy criticizes the way doctors and society deal with menopause. They are also a topic in her new book.

Bestselling author Ildikó von Kürthy, 55, has called for more information about menopause. “Menopause is a biological scandal, and it is also a scandal how little doctors know about it,” Kürthy told the German Press Agency in Hamburg.

Even gynecologists often hardly know anything about it. “Women are not informed or misinformed and are still told that menopausal symptoms just have to be endured,” said the author.

But you don’t have to. “Nine million women suffer, some massively. And it is the whole of humanity that suffers. If there were a male climacteric, the issue would not be dismissed as a niche problem. This is a scandalously underestimated issue.”

Ildikó von Kürthy is happy about getting older

The author has no objection to getting older per se. “I like seeing aging in myself. I’ve never minded looking my age.”

The belly matches the hair color, the neck matches the face, the inner maturity matches the outer maturity. “For me, it’s not a bad thing if you feel as old as you are. Quite the opposite! I’m 55 and of course I don’t feel like I did when I was 30. Then I would have lived in vain for 25 years and not developed any further. One Horrible idea.”
