Ikea’s new smart socket costs 7 euros

In April 2024, Ikea plans to bring a successor product to the Trådfri socket (g+) onto the market. Golem.de found out about this from the Swedish furniture store and has one Report on Reddit confirmed. The new Tretakt smart socket is already being sold in the first Ikea furniture stores.

The Reddit post refers to the Tretakt package with the Rodret switch, which is offered at a price of 10 euros. Ikea has confirmed this list price. When Tretakt comes onto the market regularly in April 2024, the Tretakt socket will also be available individually – at a price of 7 euros. The set includes the Rodret switch, which costs 6 euros, with a discount of 3 euros.

The Tretakt products are not yet available on the Ikea website. According to information on Reddit, the new model is significantly more compact and has a switch on the housing so that you can switch the socket if necessary. The Tretakt socket is supposed to offer Zigbee 3.0 and the maximum power of connected devices is given as 3,680 watts.

Trådfri socket costs more than Tretakt

The Trådfri socket does not have a switch on the housing, is significantly more voluminous than the new model and will continue to be offered. It may remain in the range because there should be a crucial difference.

The Trådfri socket came onto the market in autumn 2020 with a delay of 1.5 years at a price of 10 euros. It is currently available for 13 euros and can be used with either the Trådfri gateway, which is no longer available, or the new Dirigera hub.

When asked, Ikea explained that the Tretakt socket cannot be used with the Trådfri gateway. Instead, the Dirigera hub is needed, everyone “newer Ikea Home Smart products communicate with our Dirigera Hub for smart products”the company explained.

With the Rodret switch, the Tretakt socket can also be used without a smart home hub. A motion detector can also be connected to it without using a hub. For all other smart home functions, Tretakt must be connected to a smart home hub.
