Ikea branch does without fries – and triggers outrage

In Würzburg, the Ikea branch is causing a stir. The company would like to remove French fries from the menu – to protect the climate. This decision sparked criticism.
A photo from an Ikea furniture store that no longer wants to offer French fries in its restaurant has sparked discussion on social networks. The company made it clear on Thursday that it was “an individual decision” by the Würzburg location and not a decision that applied to all German furniture stores.
The photo shows a sign with the Ikea logo and the inscription “We deliberately do without fries” and further: “A portion of fries causes more than four times as much CO2 during processing and preparation as a portion of boiled potatoes.” With a conscious diet, everyone can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases.
Only two Ikea branches no longer offer French fries
The blogger Boris Reitschuster, who had attracted attention in the past with false claims about the corona pandemic, among other things, posted the photo via Twitter and commented that he “consciously refrains from shops that want to teach and patronize me”, and thus numerous reactions triggered. At times, the topic was one of the top trends in the network.
Ikea, on the other hand, made it clear that “there are currently no plans to remove French fries from the range. However, French fries are not an integral part of our national offer, so it is up to our local locations whether French fries are part of the local offer”. so the company. Of all 54 Ikea furniture stores in Germany, only the furniture stores in Würzburg and Bremerhaven currently do not offer french fries.
