Igort: Comic about the Ukraine war – culture

The “Reports from Ukraine – Diary of an Invasion” begins with a gesture of Soviet ecstasy. On one of the first pages, Vera Mukhina’s sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”, drawn by the Italian comic author Igort, strives forward, upwards, into a bright future. Mukhina’s work from 1937 was the legendary signature of the Mosfilm studios, triumphant, heroic, historically completely outdated. The drawing is a nice throwback if you have an ironic attitude to Soviet nostalgia, and it went very well with Igort’s first volume on Ukraine (“Memories of the USSR Period”). But as an introduction to a comic about the Ukraine war?
