Iga Swiatek crushes Jessica Pegula in Cancun final and wins her first Masters

There was absolutely no suspense. Impressive mastery, Iga Swiatek, new world number one at the expense of Aryna Sabalenka, made short work of a completely unrecognizable Jessica Pegula (6-1, 6-0, in 59 minutes) this Monday in the final of the Cancun Masters (Mexico). She therefore becomes the second Polish woman to win a Masters, after Agnieszka Radwanska, in 2015.

While she was supposed to be handicapped by a considerably less recovery time compared to her opponent of the day, the 22-year-old Pole never looked in better shape, immediately taking the American by the throat. Without solutions and particularly imprecise (23 unforced errors against 6 for Swiatek), Pegula, totally helpless, as evidenced by her numerous gestures of frustration, never made Swiatek shiver for a single moment.

Winner of Roland-Garros in June, but eliminated in the round of 16 in Australia and at the US Open, in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, the Pole therefore won her sixth title of the season, the 17th in total.
