Jörg Hofmann led the largest German union for eight years, during Corona, the industrial downturn and high inflation. What is his record?

The alarm clock rings around five in the morning. Then the former head of Germany’s largest union gets up and feeds the chickens on his property in Berlin. This is one of the few escapes from the demanding daily business that the economist (and trained farmer) Jörg Hofmann has allowed himself so far. When the 67-year-old steps down as IG Metall boss after eight years, he will have more time – and is looking forward to it. Or so he says.
