IG Metall complains about rapid job cuts in Schweinfurt – Bavaria

The IG Metall Schweinfurt has complained about the impending loss of hundreds of jobs at automotive suppliers in the region. “It feels like a landslide right now,” said the first representative Thomas Höhn. The loss of 420 jobs at Preh announced on Tuesday is just the latest in a whole series of bad news.

ZF plans to cut at least 380 jobs in the field of electromobility and combustion technology by the end of the year. SKF has just cut 500 jobs, is planning short-time work and is now implementing the next phase of the announced staff reductions with part-time retirement.

Due to the weak order situation in the industrial business, Schaeffler wants to reduce the working hours of 2,000 employees at the Schweinfurt site to 30 hours a week for a year. The union is fighting for every job, Höhn emphasized, and called on companies “to stand by their employees in these tough times.”
