Ifo index rises surprisingly – economy

The mood in the German economy surprisingly brightened in March. The Ifo business climate rose to 87.8 points from 85.7 points in the previous month, as the Munich Ifo Institute announced on Friday in its survey of around 9,000 managers. Companies assessed the current business situation and the prospects for the coming months more favorably than before. “The German economy sees a silver lining on the horizon,” said Ifo President Clemens Fuest. However, many experts assume that the economy will shrink in the first quarter. The federal government expects 0.2 percent growth for 2024 overall.
