Idris Elba has apparently withdrawn from the race to succeed James Bond. The star is said to have suggested its own candidates.

Since Daniel Craig’s (54) farewell performance as a spy in Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the rumor mill has been churning. Fans around the world are wondering which actor will be the next James Bond. The series and film star Idris Elba (49, “Luther”) has been considered one of the favorites to succeed Craig. The British “The Sun” now reportsthat Elba took himself out of the race for the role.

Accordingly, Elba allegedly resigned voluntarily, although he is said to have been the preferred candidate for Bond producer Barbara Broccoli (62). Instead of the Bond role, the 49-year-old allegedly wants to build his own film series that has not yet been established in cinemas. “[Idris Elba] wants to create something for myself,” an unnamed source told the British paper.

After his resignation, however, the Star Bond producer Broccoli proposed his own candidates for the famous double zero number. The aforementioned anonymous source further reveals that Elba was involved in the 007 successor decision-making process “in an ‘informal’ way” as he has been in talks with the producers for quite some time. According to the “Sun”, Broccoli admitted for the first time that Elba was even in the race after his retirement.

The Bond role has been vacant since last year’s hit film “James Bond 007: No Time to Die”. Again and again names of popular actors for the successor to Daniel Craig are circulating. After Elba’s departure, Brit Henry Cavill (39, “The Witcher”) and “Bridgerton” newcomer Regé-Jean Page (34) are the bookmakers on the island’s favorites for the iconic role, as “The Sun” writes .
