Three weeks before the start of the World Cup, national striker Marcel Noebels was injured in the DEL final series. How difficult is unclear. His Berlin teammates react calmly to the series equalizer.

After the second final game of the playoffs in Germany Ice hockey league there are concerns about national striker Marcel Noebels. The Eisbären Berlin attacker had to leave the ice injured in the 5:3 (1:0, 3:3, 1:0) against the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven.

It is still unclear how serious the injury is to the 2018 Olympic silver medalist and 2023 world runner-up. “As usual, I don’t talk about possible injuries in the playoffs,” said Eisbären coach Serge Aubin after the game.

Noebels did not return to the ice in the final period. An injury to the 32-year-old could also potentially have an impact on the national team: the World Cup begins on May 10th in the Czech Republic. “I’m now in good spirits that he’s there,” said his strike partner Leo Pföderl with regard to the third final game on Sunday (3:30 p.m./MagentaSport and DF1) back in Bremerhaven.

The Penguins won the first final game 4-2 and four wins are needed to win the title. The Berliners reacted accordingly cautiously to Friday’s victory in a high-class game. “Now it’s back to zero and we can move on,” said the two-time goalscorer Pföderl. “We have to do our homework at home and win an away game. Of course we want to do that on Sunday,” said national defender Jonas Müller, who was also successful twice.
