In the third attempt, defending champions EHC Red Bull Munich convincingly achieved their first success in the playoff semi-finals. Munich’s national goalkeeper cannot be defeated.

The EHC Red Bull Munich has reached the playoff semi-finals of the Germans Ice hockey league reported back. Former national coach Toni Söderholm’s team won 4-0 (1-0, 1-0, 2-0) at the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven and shortened the best-of-seven series to 1-2.

“It was pretty much a perfect game,” explained the strong Munich goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger at MagentaSport. A team needs four wins to reach the final.

Niederberger with a strong performance

After the two defeats at the start of the series, the defending champions from Munich got off to a better start in Bremerhaven. Konrad Abeltshauser gave the guests the lead after seven minutes. Trevor Parkes was able to increase the score for the Söderholm team in the second half (25th minute).

Unlike in the previous two meetings, the hosts from Seestadt were unable to take advantage of good opportunities and were repeatedly denied by the strong national goalkeeper Niederberger. Bremerhaven’s Christian Wejse missed the best chance to connect when he only hit the post (52′). National players Maxi Kastner (53rd) and Chris DeSousa (58th) made the well-deserved away win perfect.
