There are many differences in Europe. But once a year, on a weekend in spring, more than 180 million people agree: Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest is nothing. Since the absolute low point in 2015 (Germany: Zero Points), the German candidates, with the exception of Michael Schulte (2018), have no longer made it past the penultimate place. The NDR is therefore breaking new ground when selecting the German Eurovision act this year, at least in part: the casting show “I want to go to the ESC!” should fix it.
