The match was played in the afternoon, Wednesday in New York. After winning this quarter-final of the US Open against Andrey Rublev (6-4, 6-3, 6-4), Daniil Medvedev notably insisted on the dangers linked to the intense humid heat which currently weighs on the megalopolis.
“We sweat so much, we use so many towels, that the red marks on my face [sur le nez, les pommettes et autour de la bouche] are not burns from the sun, but because I no longer have any skin”, underlined the Russian, adding that the face of his compatriot, friend and adversary of the day was in the same state.
“That says it all… We gave it our all. But the problem is that if the match had lasted longer, we would have left even more. I was exhausted, but if the match had continued, I would have still found energy. So what is a bit dangerous is knowing how far we would have gone, ”warned the 3rd player in the world.
“I have no solution”
However, Medvedev acknowledges that he has no solution. “It’s been hot like this for several days, but we can’t suspend the tournament for four days, it poses problems for TV, for ticketing…”
