Steffen Baumgart is self-critical: He also described the fact that 1. FC Köln had to concede so many goals recently as his mistake.
In the last few weeks, 1. FC Köln have fallen apart too much after being sent off. Steffen Baumgart criticizes himself for this – after all, he has to give his team suggestions for a solution.

I think we have to learn our way of playing and in such situations we don’t start and put pressure on, but that’s the first thing have to calm down the game”, he explained the general starting position (via picture).

According to the coach, the fact that this has not been successfully implemented so far is also due to him: “We didn’t make it and I chalk it up to me.”
It is understandably difficult for his players to “hold back when you have been drummed into attacking every ball for a year and a half”. Baumgart continued: “But I have to provide the solutions and I didn’t manage to do that twice – you have to say it so clearly. It’s a learning process for me too.”
An honest and self-critical assessment of the situation. It is of course problematic that there is hardly any time between the league and the conference league to develop such concepts, to train them and to implement them in a timely manner.
The situation is therefore “not easy”, as Baumgart admitted. The fluctuations have been too great lately, he judged: “In the last two and a half weeks we’ve been experiencing an ups and down of feelings, ranging from ‘we’re really good’ to ‘we’re shitty’.” That must now be stopped as soon as possible.
