Hunters have “a role to play in community policing,” said their boss, Willy Schraen

The president of the National Federation of Hunters, Willy Schraen, believes, in an interview with Sunday newspapere (JDD) dated November 14, that the departmental federations of hunters have “A role to play in community policing”.

Mr. Schraen, who will participate in the Congress of Mayors to be held on November 16, 17 and 18 in Paris, announces in the columns of the weekly that he wants to propose to rural elected officials a ” partnership “ in order to give sworn officers of his Federation police powers in the forest, to fight “Against rural and environmental delinquency”.

“I think that in terms of community policing, the departmental federations of hunters have a role to play in contributing to the prevention and surveillance of the territories”, he says.

“Take minutes”

“Within the Federation, we have development agents. These are trained and sworn professionals already working in certain municipalities who have requested it for the regulation of certain harmful species ”, explains the boss of the hunters.

These agents “Could, tomorrow, under the control of the State and the mayors, have broader missions to deal with illegal garbage dumps, the straying of domestic animals, problems linked to the presence of motorized vehicles in the forest in sensitive places, etc. It would be a question of drawing up reports and of noting flagrant offenses “, he continues.

Asked about the hunting accidents of recent weeks, of which non-hunters have been victims, Mr. Schraen says he deplores them, ” obviously “, and fight “Every day so that it does not happen again”, especially with “Intensive safety training”, while estimating ” that we [les] mediates too much “. He adds that he wants to propose the definitive withdrawal of the hunting license. “If someone kills or seriously injures a person by having committed a serious fault”. ” This is not the case today, [ce permis] is simply withdrawn for a given period “, he argues. “If it is proven that you have made a mistake, then you will have to say goodbye to your hunting license”, he says.
