Hundreds of people protested on Saturday evening in Berlin-Friedrichshain against the evacuation of the left-wing autonomous car camp “Köpi”.
The number of participants is in the upper three-digit range, said a police spokeswoman. The demonstration from Rigaer Strasse to the camp site on Köpenicker Strasse is scheduled to last until midnight.
The police temporarily stopped the elevator because some participants were masked, the spokeswoman said.
The Wagencamp is considered to be one of the last symbolic projects of the left-wing radical scene in Berlin. In June, the district court ordered the evacuation of the property with inhabited construction vehicles, which is now scheduled for October 15.
The residents want to try to stop this with an urgent procedure before the higher court. Should it come to the evacuation, they “do not want to give up without a fight”, as announced by spokesman on Friday.
The demonstration should also remember the evacuation of the occupied house “Liebig 34” a year ago.
