Humanoid robot “GR-1” to be used in care

He looks like a human skeleton, with his fine limbs and his upright walk – reduced to the most necessary. But the GR-1 robot from the Chinese manufacturer Fourier Intelligence is fully mobile. This robot could soon be used in care. This is the goal of the manufacturer, who has previously gained experience with exoskeletons to support people with restricted mobility in their everyday lives and in rehabilitation. GR-1 is 1.65 meters tall, weighs 55 kilograms and according to the manufacturer can lift around 50 kilograms. When walking upright, it reaches a speed of about 5 km/h. To interact with people, it uses systems with artificial intelligence. Gu Jie, founder and head of the company, does not see his work locations as limited to care. “Humanoid all-purpose robots will gradually develop into a mainstream segment in industry,” he says. Further possible uses would therefore be in industry, in research and in the home. The robot should be on the market in two to three years. The Android from China isn’t the only working development of a humanoid robot: Atlas, the robot from Boston Dynamics, never fails to amaze with its impressive motor skills, and Elon Musk is also working on the Tesla-Bot.
