Hugh Grant, the British anti-populist – culture

Of

Fritz Goettler

Hugh Grant’s surprise appearance this Christmas – this is a spoiler! – is coming to Netflix, a small must-see scene in the great detective spectacle “The Glass Onion” by Rian Johnson. Less surprising, but always nice, is the legendary scene in the film “Actually … Love”, one of the great Christmas classics that regularly appears on television programs worldwide – on Sunday it was shown on ZDF. Legendary is how in this film the British Prime Minister, home alone, begins swinging to a song down the stairs at 10 Downing Street with the exalted movements of a pop singer. Hugh Grant is the prime minister and he hated that performance – even when he read about it in the script. With little tricks – “a sprained ankle!” – he wanted to prevent it from being filmed that way. Without success.
