Nine years after the third part, “Bridget Jones” is getting a sequel. Actor Hugh Grant gives a little insight.
Nine years after the last part, the cult film series “Bridget Jones” is getting a sequel. It is already known that Renée Zellweger will return to her role as the clumsy main character Hugh Grant rejoins the cast as Daniel Cleaver. He spoke about the film for the first time in an interview.
“It’s both very moving and funny,” says the actor to “People” about the film, which will be called “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” in English. It is based on the book of the same name by author Helen Fielding (German title: “Bridget Jones – Crazy About Him”).
What is the fourth “Bridget Jones” film about?
The script is “based in part on Helen Fielding’s experiences as a single mother of two children after her husband died,” explains Grant. “So Bridget is raising two children alone and wondering whether she should ever date a man again.” It is a “very good script”.
In the third film, “Bridget Jones’ Baby” (2016), Bridget Jones became a mother for the first time. The child’s father is her former fiancé Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth. The film ends with the two getting married. It is already known that the actor will not be there in the fourth part and could mean that he dies the film death. This should bring Hugh Grant’s character Daniel Cleaver back on the scene…
In any case, the actor is looking forward to working with Zellweger again: “I’ve been meeting Renée again and again for ten years. We always seem to get along well,” says the actor.
The first film in the series was released in 2001 under the subtitle “Bridget Jones – Chocolate for Breakfast”. The sequel “Bridget Jones – On the Edge of Madness” followed in 2004 and “Bridget Jones’ Baby” in 2016. All films are based on Helen Fielding’s book series of the same name. The new sequel about the love confusion is scheduled to be released in cinemas on Valentine’s Day (February 14th), 2025.
