huge fireball seen near Oxford after explosion

A fire was still underway at the site of a waste management plant, caused by the explosion of a gas container probably struck by lightning.

A huge fireball was observed this Monday evening in Oxford County, United Kingdom, after a large explosion. Police arrived at the scene while the fire was still burning. The fire broke out at the site of a waste management company, Severn Trent Green Power, near Yarnton, northwest of the city of Oxford.

Several videos posted on social networks filmed this enormous ball of fire illuminating the sky. In a statement published on X (formerly Twitter), the police indicated that the fire could have been caused by a violent storm: “Lightning is believed to have struck gas containers at the site due to bad weather and causing a major fire.”

“No injuries”

The Severn Trent Green Power company confirmed this information, specifying that“Luckily no one was injured.” “No one appears to have been injured, but emergency services remain on site”added the police.

Six fire engines as well as 40 firefighters were deployed to the factory site, according to information from the BBC. Residents near the scene of the fire also reported power outages in several nearby towns, according to the British media.
