Noah Katterbach (22) is back at HSV. The left-back is leaving his youth club 1. FC Köln six months before the end of his contract for Hamburg, where he was already active on loan in the second half of last season. The former DFB junior reportedly signed a working paper with the fourth-place team in the 2nd Bundesliga until 2027.
Katterbach is moving on a free transfer, but if HSV succeeds in its planned promotion to the Bundesliga, according to “Bild”, a bonus payment would be due. The youngster is reportedly accepting financial compromises for the move and will in future receive significantly less than the rumored annual salary of 2 million euros in Cologne.

“I am very happy to be back here at HSV and to attack together with the team, all those responsible and the fans to achieve our big common goal,” said Katterbach. HSV director Claus Costa explained: “We have always remained in contact with Noah even after the loan ended in the summer of 2023, as we are absolutely convinced of him in terms of sport and personality. We are all the more pleased to have Noah back with us and to have signed him as another important building block for the quality and breadth of our squad and a real team player.”
Katterbach played eleven games in the HSV jersey until he tore a cruciate ligament and was out for around six months. At the beginning of November he celebrated his comeback in the Cologne reserves and collected further playing time in the Regionalliga West. However, a place in the professional squad was no longer planned for him. There has been speculation around HSV about a new Katterbach commitment for months because the collaboration was successful until the serious injury. Both sides had always expressed interest in a second attempt.
New signing from 1. FC Köln: Katterbach is currently a challenger at HSV
As was the case last season, Katterbach is mainly scheduled for the Hanseatic League as a back-up for regular Miro Muheim (25). The Swiss is currently performing more consistently than last season. Katterbach can be used flexibly and can also play on the right side of defense, and he is also considered the more offensive alternative to Muheim. HSV coach Tim Walter also positioned Katterbach on the left wing – Muheim was then intended to play the role of central defender in a three-man chain.
