HSV beats Eintracht Braunschweig and keeps a clean slate at home | NDR.de – Sports

Second division soccer team HSV remains a power in front of their home crowd. Against northern rivals Eintracht Braunschweig, Hamburg achieved their seventh win on Friday evening with a 2-1 (2-0) win in their seventh home game. However, the confident performance of the second in the table against the penultimate in the ranking was only 45 minutes long.

With their goals in the first half, Guilherme Ramos (25th) and ex-Braunschweiger Immanuel Pherai (26th) ensured that at halftime in the Volksparkstadion everything pointed to a clear success for the favorites. After the break, coach Tim Walter’s team switched to administration mode and were punished for their too casual demeanor: Fabio Kaufmann shortened the score for Lower Saxony (62′) and later even scored the supposed equalizer (74′). However, the goal was disallowed due to an offside position.

HSV finally saved the narrow success over time and at least temporarily drew level on points with leaders FC St. Pauli, who will play against FC Hansa Rostock on Saturday (1 p.m., in the live center at NDR.de).

Walter is relieved, Scherning praises Braunschweig’s morale

“It’s not always just a matter of passing – you saw that today. We played a good game in the first half, but we didn’t come out of the locker room as we had hoped. The opponent did well too But as I said: We don’t beat everyone in passing, we always have to invest everything. We did that in the first half, maybe not quite so much in the second half. But I’m very happy that we got the three points have kept us”, Walter told NDR.

BTSV coach Daniel Scherning complained that his team acted “sometimes too scared and discouraged” in the first round. Overall, the 40-year-old was satisfied with the performance of his team, which still has no points away from home: “We tried to defend ourselves against this defeat with everything we have.”

“We put all our eggs into our hands in the second half and tried to turn the game around.”

Goalscorer Kaufmann was in the same vein. “I have a lot of respect for the team. We put all our eggs into our hands in the second half and tried to turn the game around. It hurts a little bit. But I’m leaving here very positive. If we do what we did “We showed in the second half that we can last 90 minutes and then we’ll get our points,” explained the offensive man.

Braunschweig relies on compact defense and counterattacks

With temperatures around freezing point, the duel between the promotion and relegation candidates initially offered little in the way of warmth. As expected, Braunschweig stood deep in their own half from the start, left HSV to shape the game and speculated on what Hamburg can always rely on: careless ball losses.

BTSV’s plan almost worked out: Marvin Rittmüller (10th) and Anton-Leander Donkor (23rd) came to the finish from interesting positions after counterattacks, but each didn’t aim precisely enough. But that was it for Lower Saxony’s offensive glory in the first 45 minutes.

Glatzel stumbles, Ramos succeeds with his header

Whether the encounter would have taken a different course if Braunschweig had scored earlier is hypothetical, but seems rather unlikely given the oppressive superiority of the Walter team. The home team clearly dominated the action and should have taken the lead in the 18th minute thanks to their top scorer Robert Glatzel. The attacker ran freely towards the goal after a pass from Bakery Jatta, but then had the ball stolen from his foot by keeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann. A shot would probably have been the better decision in this situation.

With the necessary determination that Glatzel had previously lacked, Ramos soon went to work. After a short corner, the central defender received the ball on his head in an exemplary manner from Jean-Luc Dompé and scored to make it 1-0. This was followed by a Ronaldo celebration from the man with the Rasta braids, who, after initially chaotic performances in the HSV jersey, has now become a top performer.

“We were close. But unfortunately we can’t buy anything for it.”

Pherai scores against former club

The first few months at the former German football heavyweight were also difficult for Pherai. But the Dutchman is now also increasingly becoming a factor for the Hanseatic people. On this Friday evening, much to the chagrin of his former club. Just 60 seconds after taking the lead, the 22-year-old made it 2-0 with a well-placed right-footed shot. Pherai then refrained from celebrating a goal out of respect for his former employer. A fine gesture from the fine footballer.

Things almost got worse for the guests. After Donkor fouled Jatta in the BTSV penalty area, video assistant referee Daniel Siebert contacted referee Max Burda and advised him to watch the scene again on the screen. Siebert did the same and decided: No penalty because Jatta was offside.

Premiere in the Cologne basement: Ex-professional Kneißl supports VAR

The small interruption in Hamburg had historic proportions. Not because the decision had such great consequences, but because in distant Cologne, where the most famous cellar in German professional football is known to be based, Sebastian Kneißl, an ex-professional, supported the video assistants for the first time. “We don’t want to close ourselves off to any idea and the idea that a former professional footballer could perhaps contribute something positive with his view of football is obvious,” said Alexander Feuerherdt, spokesman for DFB Schiri GmbH, to the Sportschau.

Businessman between joy and frustration

HSV remained dominant in the second half, but without decisively pushing for the 3-0. The game was rippling like rain when Kaufmann took heart from around 20 meters, shot and beat keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes with a powerful shot into the right corner. The Walter team once again “shone” with passive defensive behavior by conceding 18 goals this season.

This is also not a new phenomenon for the Hamburg team: after a setback, they lose control of the game. This was also the case against Eintracht, who became even braver after the goal and were even allowed to celebrate the equalizer. However, the joy about the supposed 2:2 only lasted for a short time. Because Kaufmann was just offside when he scored (74th), as a check in the Cologne basement showed.

Frustration at the “Lions”, breathing deeply at HSV, who subsequently lacked any sovereignty. The fact that the promotion candidate allowed themselves to be pushed into their own half by the second-to-last team in the final phase, excluding an eight-minute stoppage time, should give those responsible something to think about.
