HSV also loses against newly promoted VfL Osnabrück – Castaignos saves a point for 1. FC Magdeburg

After defeat against Elversberg

Hamburger SV also stumbled against the second promoted team in the 2nd Bundesliga and is experiencing the first crisis of the young season. A week after the 1:2 at SV Elversberg, the North Germans lost 1:2 (1:2) at the bottom of the table, VfL Osnabrück, on Friday evening and showed a shockingly weak performance.

Although Robert Glatzel gave the guests an early lead (12th minute), Erik Engelhardt (16th) and Oumar Diakhite (39th) turned the game in favor of the hosts. It was the first win of the season for the purple-whites in front of 15,741 spectators in the sold-out stadium at the Bremer Bridge.

The hosts appeared transformed compared to the 7-0 debacle at Hannover 96 a week ago. The Osnabrück team threw themselves into every duel and were clearly the better team in terms of play. However, coach Tobias Schweinsteiger’s team failed to take advantage of their many chances. So VfL had to tremble until the end.

The weak Hamburg team couldn’t come up with anything in the second half either, so the next defeat was completely deserved. Coach Tim Walter’s team lost in Osnabrück two years ago and lost promotion in the final phase of the season.

SC Paderborn narrowly missed out on victory at 1. FC Magdeburg

SC Paderborn narrowly missed out on a surprise win against 1. FC Magdeburg, who had started well. The East Westphalians had to be satisfied with a 1:1 (1:0). Adriano Grimaldi (35th minute) put the SCP in front in front of 24,123 spectators in the MDCC Arena before Luc Castaignos (85th) scored the late equalizer. The FCM initially climbed to third place, Paderborn to twelfth place in the table.

Both coaches rotated a lot: Lukas Kwasniok changed his Paderborn starting eleven to five positions, FCM coach Christian Titz brought in four new players after the first defeat of the season at Schalke (3:4). In the duel between the two clubs with the highest pass rate in the league, it was a game with open sights from the start. The FCM had the best chance to take the lead through Jason Ceka (32′), who shot from the edge of the penalty area. But the ball went just wide. Grimaldi did better on the other side when he pushed the ball in from half left to take the lead. The scene was checked for offside, but in vain.

After the substitution, Luca Schuler (49′) had the chance to equalize, but his shot from six meters was blocked. In the FCM game there was a lack of accuracy against clever and confident Paderborn players, especially in the penalty area. In the final quarter of an hour, Magdeburg increased their offensive efforts, while SCP defended passionately. But when Castaignos’s agile solo after a through pass from Baris Atik, the visitors’ defense was powerless. Four minutes later, Castaignos even had the chance to take the lead with his header.
