Orlando Figes, British historian emeritus at Birkbeck College in London, has written numerous books on Russian cultural history, the 1917 revolution, Stalinism and the Crimea. With “A History of Russia” he has now presented a new monograph in which Figes traces those structures, thought patterns, ideals and ideologies that also play a central role in the Russian war against Ukraine.
