In November and before Christmas, people were again bombarded with shopping calls: red price tags flashed everywhere on the Internet – on Black Friday, Cyber Monday or “Singles Day” and of course with the “Super Xmas offers”. If all this was too much for you, you may want to think about what you really need in the new year and how you can at least buy it sustainably – especially when it comes to technology such as smartphones, cell phones and laptops. Because electronic devices are not disposable products. They and the batteries they contain contain valuable metals and precious metals such as silver, gold, platinum, copper, nickel, cobalt and lithium. In some regions of the world, mining them is associated with massive conflicts, with wars, child labor and environmental destruction.
