It’s in the dance and her passion for fashion than Amelia Ramos scratches his style. At just 21 years old, she travels the TV sets and was chosen to be THE official dancer of the tour Epicenter Tower by Mr. Pokora. The young artist is already performing one-on-one with the singer in the clip Already flown from the singer’s latest album. A performance that is in no way due to chance, as the competition is fierce. So how do you manage to break through in an environment that she describes as “extremely competitive, very tough and ruthless”?
To watch her dance, to listen to her, no doubt. Calm and determined voice, a bit wild. A lot of work, a bit of luck and a caring entourage set the tempo of his life. If she started dancing at a very young age, inspired by Beyoncé, she quickly knew how to make her way through the jungle of TV sets.
Dancer and choreographer, Amelia Ramos explains that she draws her “rhythm in the skin” from her Cuban and Cape Verdean origins where “dance takes precedence in culture”. Enrolled from the age of 3 in an academic dance course, near Torcy, in Seine-et-Marne, she goes from age 11 to age 19 in lessons and training. Including those of Sabrina Lonisa famous dance teacher who “choreographs a lot of TV shows”.
Classes on TV, there is only one (dance) step. During these almost ten years, she was increasingly “contacted” for performances as a professional dancer in shows, but also for “experiences in Los Angeles” from the age of 16. Motivated, it was at this age that she decided to expand her young career and learn, again and again. Direction the city where everything would be possible. All that remained was to unroll. After regular stays in the United States, only during school holidays because her mother insisted that she pass the baccalaureate to “have a plan B just in case”, the young woman ends up making a name for herself in the middle. “The level of dance in Los Angeles is incredible, assures Amelia Ramos. It has nothing to do with Paris even if the French capital also remains one of the best cities for dancing. But going to Los Angeles brought me a lot, especially in terms of professionalism. »
These courses in California which above all allowed her to be taken very seriously in Paris. “French choreographers contacted me a lot as soon as I got back,” notes the young woman. Talent, hard work and determination. A life in a straight line accompanied from the age of 15 by Nadéra Zaid, associate director of Carte blanche, an agency that mainly represents content creators and artists from the new pop culture. “I had a professional crush on her, says her agent. She offered dance videos, etc. on social media, and I went out of my way to get it. »
“Not having an agent, but a good agent”
A decisive support for the young artist. The simple professional encounter very quickly grew into a strong friendship. “The most important thing, warns Amelia Ramos, is not to have an agent but to have a good agent. You mustn’t throw yourself into the lion’s mouth, absolutely find an agent, but it’s really important to have someone who honestly and humanely defends your interests. It’s a bit like a second mom, explains Amelia Ramos. The relationship between an agent and a talent is not only pecuniary, it is really a collaboration, it requires fluid communication, a relationship of trust. And when we manage to do things, it’s really a joint victory, teamwork,” she underlines.
Since then, Amelia Ramos has collaborated with singers such as Gims, Slimane, Alonzo, L’artiste… A multidisciplinary artist, she practices all dances, even heels (dancing in high heels) and gives lessons… Passionate about image and artistic direction, urban style and fashion, she also collaborates with major brands by being a model and introduces dance in all the advertising or influence campaigns for which she works.
“It all came together”
It is therefore not surprising that his atypical personality is of interest to “casters” for Mr. Pokora’s next tour, Epicenter Tour. Contacted by Hakim Gorab, artistic director and choreographer for many “big” television shows, the latter asked her if she was free to audition… “Matt had liked one of my personal videos of dance on instagram and he wanted to see me at the casting”, says the dancer.
And “everything came together. I did the audition in September and I was selected, the clip in November. At the final audition, among fifty selected dancers, in the presence of Mr. Pokora. You had to learn the choreography in thirty minutes, and it is better to follow it because to be a professional dancer, you have to have a good memory and learn very quickly. Then we went three by three. There you had to tear everything up, give your all, in front of Matt Pokora, his artistic direction, his choreographer and his manager. It was very stressful, I even threw up when I left the audition: adrenaline brings a lot of things up, she says. They finally called me back three hours later, I was chosen. »
For the time being, Amelia Ramos is preparing physically for the tour which will begin in June, “with a lot of cardio, because Matt Pokora is the biggest artistic scene in France, with behind, one of the biggest productions”, underlines-t- She. “It’s clear, adds the young woman, it’s going to be quite an experience! »
