How the Théâtre de la Criée intends to relaunch after months of inactivity

Only five shows have been able to play normally this season. The national theater of The auction in Marseille has suffered as elsewhere from the health crisis, and hopes to definitively turn the page of this black year for the spectacle. “This season comes after an unprecedented moment, a special year in which art has been prevented,” says the director of the premises, Macha Makeïeff, as a preamble to the presentation of the 2021-2022 season.

Not a word on the occupation of the theater for three months, which delayed its reopening. The time has come for the presentation of the 80 projects of this season built “as a revenge for all this silence”. In total, 254 curtain raisers are expected, and nearly 94,500 places for sale, at a median price of 13 euros. “In reaction to the great precariousness of the students, a certain number of places were opened for symbolic 1 euro throughout the season,” adds Macha Makeïeff, who also sends the message to subscribers to come back, but even more “to come often and with others ”. “Yes the season will be held,” she assures.

Great sagas

To convince the public to (re) find their way to the Auction, Macha Makeïeff has some great proposals in her wallet. Several are carryovers from last season, such as The game of Shadows by Jean Bellorini, a real opera show not to be missed, or Men’s response by Tiphaine Raffier, who is one of the young artists to follow. We also find Joël Pommerat and Olivier Py, who are back with shows for all audiences, or Christophe Honoré and Caroline Gieula Nguyen with real sagas (family for the first, futuristic for the second).

Without forgetting Actoral which promises beautiful moments, in particular with Showgirl by and with Marlène Saldana (revealed as the fabulous Jacques Demy in Idols by Christophe Honoré). “On the body of the woman, it says a lot”, smiles Macha Makeïeff, who also chose the character of Medea, “great myth of female revenge”, to open the season, in a staging signed by the promising Tommy Milliot.

Theater, but also music, dance, meetings, and school mediation actions which will resume. “We multiply the” First times by the sea “, which allows you to take the boat from the Mucem and discover the theater by associating it with an adventure, explains Macha Makeïeff. This first-time philosophy is essential, for children but also for all those far from the theater. “
