It’s ironic that Germany spent months debating heating – too expensive, too fossil fuels – and then urgently looking to cool down. The temperature issue has become political, and the climate crisis can be felt in people’s living rooms. In the past few days, temperatures in Germany have reached record levels. Figures from 2022 show what consequences this can have for people: more than 60,000 people died in Europe as a result of the heat. Northern Europe must also learn to cool down – and a much-discussed type of heating of all things could help: the heat pump.
