Volkswagen, Uniper, Metro, Adidas: Many large German companies have always done business with Russia. Now almost all of them are leaving the country – with serious consequences.

They were among the first: Siemens delivered to Russia as early as 1851, and the business relationship survived difficult times. However, last week Siemens also reacted to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and discontinued its new business in Russia. Almost all German companies are like Siemens: Many are involved in Russia with large sums of money – and almost all are now leaving, but not all are doing so quickly and consistently. There is also talk of Russia nationalizing sites.
