It’s probably not a very good sign for a parliament when a female overseer has to take control for days at a time. But that’s exactly what happened in the American House of Representatives, where Cheryl L. Johnson had to pay much longer attention to these 434 MPs last week than planned because they only managed to get Kevin McCarthy to speak for themselves after four days and a lot of turbulence in the 15th ballot Select. These were the big moments for her, whose official role is Clerk of the House of Representatives. At least she did her job with flying colors.
