How children overcome fears and develop courage – Knowledge

Courage isn’t just about jumping off cliffs, climbing mountains, or fighting with swords. Courage also means standing by your own feelings or standing up for others. But what helps children overcome their fears?

Eight-year-old Ella stands on the three-meter board with weak knees. She takes a deep breath – and jumps. Her classmates clap as she emerges from the water. Ella climbs out of the pool and calls out to her friend Katharina: “You’re the only one who hasn’t jumped yet, don’t you dare?” Everyone looks at Katharina expectantly. She hesitates for a moment and then replies: “I don’t want to jump. That’s too high for me.”
