In the 21st century, paranoia is not only a psychosis, but also a healthy reaction to the digital environment. The social psychologist Shoshana Zuboff from Harvard University published four years ago with “The Age of surveillance capitalism” the basic work on that uneasiness that so often creeps up on you when you move through the Internet. On 727 heavily footnoted pages it says how the digital corporations have set up a surveillance apparatus on the Internet that transforms the user population into huge data sets. Advertising companies, election campaigners and Secret services can cannibalize them with enormous precision.
