Microwaves can be found in many kitchens. Clearly, the technical marvels are practical. You can quickly heat up dishes, defrost food and make hot drinks in the micro. But the microwave is not equally suitable for all foods.
You should not cook raw meat and raw fish in the microwave. The reason: The kitchen appliance has a crucial disadvantage: it does not heat food evenly. But meat and fish should be brought completely to a temperature of over 70 degrees so that all pathogens such as salmonella or listeria are killed.
The following applies to these foods: You should cook meat and fish in the classic way, fry it or bake it in the oven.
Fats and oils for frying and deep-frying also do not belong in the microwave. The problem: They can ignite at high temperatures.
The effect of trying to cook an egg in the microwave is this: the inside of the egg begins to boil, expanding and creating an explosive effect.
A similar effect can be achieved if you try to heat an egg yolk, a chestnut or a grape in the microwave.
Perishable foods such as rice or egg dishes should also not be warmed up in the microwave. It cannot be guaranteed that the food is cooked completely to kill all germs.
