Trouble about “House of Gucci”: The film about the family of the Italian fashion empire with Lady Gaga in the lead role does not suit the heirs. In an open letter, they threaten legal consequences.

Since the first reviews of “House of Gucci” came in, it has been clear: Lady Gaga, with her acting performance, has a good chance of being nominated for an Oscar. The film about the family of the Italian fashion house is celebrated in Hollywood, in Germany it will be released in cinemas this week. But one thing tarnishes the hype: Gucci’s heirs in real life are not at all enthusiastic about it.

They vent their anger in an open letter in the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”. “The Gucci family reserves the right to take any initiative to protect their name, their image and that of their loved ones,” the family threatens the makers of the film. The problem: Especially Patrizia Reggiani, played by Lady Gaga, got off too well. Because “House of Gucci” is about the murder of Maurizio Gucci (played by Adam Driver) in the 90s. A court found his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani guilty of having commissioned the murder. The film by British director Ridley Scott is now portraying you as a victim of all people, the family complains.

“House of Gucci” is an insult to the legacy of the fashion house

And not only that: The Gucci family is portrayed as a thug, ignorant and insensitive, and the film production has not even bothered to contact them personally. “This is extremely painful from a human standpoint and an insult to the legacy on which the brand is built today”. And something else is wrong: that Reggiani had to deal with a misogynist environment, as shown in the film. As early as the 80s, female executives opposed Gucci, emphasize the heirs.

The Gucci family has had nothing to do with the luxury fashion house since the 90s. This is now owned by the French group Kering. Apparently they have nothing against the film: Salma Hayek, who plays a supporting role in “House of Gucci”, is married to its CEO, François Pinault. The flick is good for business: Allegedly, the demand for Gucci handbags has skyrocketed since its cinema release.
