Görlitzer Park in Berlin-Kreuzberg regularly makes the headlines, especially because of its many drug dealers. At a security summit it was decided how the park and the entire city should be made safer.
The governing coalition of the CDU and SPD in Berlin wants to make the federal capital safer and curb crime. There are “dreams of fear” in the city where many people no longer feel safe, said Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) on Friday after a meeting Security summit. A series of measures are intended to improve safety in hot spots such as Görlitzer Park and Leopoldplatz.
Görlitzer Park in the Kreuzberg district is regularly in the headlines, especially because of its many drug dealers. He is a “symbol of misunderstood tolerance,” said Wegner. The park will be fenced off and then temporarily closed at night.
In addition, the police should also show more presence in the neighboring residential areas. Video surveillance is planned in selected areas in Görlitzer Park. Social work for addicts should also be increased.

With these measures, the government wants to combat clan crime more strongly. For this purpose, an interdepartmental project group will be set up, “with which we will identify and sanction money laundering, drug and arms trafficking as well as new illegal business models,” explained Justice Senator Felor Badenberg (independent).
