Homophobic chants sung during a tense derby

The members of the Roazhon Celtic Kop are rather used to being noticed by the beauty of their tifos. On Sunday, the Stade Rennais ultras did not really shine by displaying a banner hostile to young striker Matthis Albine during the derby won against rival Nantes (3-1). Aged 20, the player trained at Stade Rennais was loaned to FC Nantes this season. Not to the taste of certain supporters, who displayed a banner saying “Abline, a one-way trip” before insulting the young striker.

During the meeting, marked by the expulsion of Nantes’ Mostafa Mohamed, the Rennes ultras were also noticed by several homophobic chants sung against Nantes’ rivals, which we will do without repeating to you. The latter were absent from the visitors’ stand, refusing the drastic conditions imposed by the Ille-et-Vilaine prefecture for this match deemed “at risk”. On social networks, a woman also testified to having been the victim of a sexual assault in the same Mordelles stand during an “arm in arm”.

Tense, especially in the second half, the match was sometimes interrupted by mistakes, which notably gave Rennes two penalties, transformed by Bourigeaud and Kalimuendo. As during the match between PSG and Olympique de Marseille a week ago, some supporters sang homophobic chants, whistled by another part of the stadium. Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra condemned these facts and regretted that the meeting was not interrupted following the chants.
