The operation started early Friday morning. Since around 5:30 a.m., homeless people have left Place de l’Etoile in Strasbourg where they had pitched their tents since mid-May. In total, the police transferred around 70 people to a nearby gymnasium, that of Heyritz, for “an assessment of the situation” of the persons concerned.
This is not the first time that an operation of this type has been carried out. Last December, the administrative court had already ordered an evacuation. The prefecture of Bas-Rhin had enforced it, not without the town hall showing its disagreement. This time, it was at the request of this same town hall that the operation was carried out, still in application of the order of the judge in chambers of the administrative court of Strasbourg.
