Homage to Percy Adlon: Munich Film Museum shows “Out of Rosenheim” – Munich

They find a leather jacket in their suitcase, which makes the Americans wonder whether their guest might be a representative of European country and western clothing. Of course she isn’t, the tourist in the loden costume had an argument with her husband and is now standing alone in front of a bar in the Californian desert. “Out of Rosenheim” is the title of this film, the supposed traditional costume representative is called Jasmin Münchgstettner and is played by the incomparable Marianne Sägebrecht.

She brings life to the desert, she cleans up, gets involved – and falls in love with an American (Jack Palance). The emancipation story, disguised as a feel-good comedy, was a huge cinema success in 1987, and its creator, Percy Adlon, then moved to the USA with his wife Eleonore. On March 10, 2024, Adlon died in Los Angeles at the age of 88. The Munich Film Museum is remembering him with a special event – and, in addition to his biggest hit, is showing a half-hour documentary from 2018 in which he once again remembers the filming locations the desert drove.
