Christopher Nolan’s historical epic is becoming a favorite in the current awards season. If there were an award for best reaction at the Critics Choice Awards, the winner would be Ryan Gosling.

The drama “Oppenheimer” is the big winner at the Critics Choice Awards. The historical film by Christopher Nolan won in eight categories on Monday night, including the top category “Best Film”. Nolan won best director, Robert Downey Jr. for his supporting role in the film about the co-inventor of the atomic bomb. “Oppenheimer” is becoming the favorite in the current price season. The historical epic about J. Robert Oppenheimer also won the most prizes at the Golden Globes.

Ryan Gosling amuses with a surprising reaction

Numerous celebrities came to Los Angeles for the US Critics Awards ceremony. The Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, who together with the songwriters won in the “Best Song” category for the song “I’m just Ken” from “Barbie”, caused laughter and many reactions on social media. After the power ballad was declared the winner, the main camera panned to Gosling – and showed him extremely irritated about the win. Instead of being happy, the 43-year-old frowned and almost seemed angry. The song was written by US producers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who then accepted the award on stage – without Gosling, who watched the whole thing clapping in disbelief.

He probably didn’t expect the award, as two other songs from “Barbie” were also nominated, namely by music superstars Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. In addition to his acting, Gosling is also active in music, for example in the indie band Dead Man’s Bones.

“Amusing as a bedridden fart”: Robert Downey Jr. quotes critics

US actor Robert Downey Jr. also caused amusement in his acceptance speech. He recited some reviews about him from the past that the members of the Critics Choice Association – who decide the awards – had written. “I thought this morning: I love critics,” said the 58-year-old. “They gave me such wonderful feedback, really so many great moments, and some of them are so poetic,” he said. “I just want to share with you some of their thoughts that they have expressed over the years.”

“The first is a kind of haiku: ‘Sloppy, messy and lazy,'” he quoted. A Briton wrote: “An astonishing waste of talent.” “And finally, and this stuck: ‘Amusing as a bedridden fart,'” he continued. The audience laughed.

Emma Stone instead of Sandra Hülser

The Critics Choice Association is the largest film and television critics association in the United States and Canada, with over 500 members. They voted in numerous categories. The German actress Sandra Hülser was nominated for best actress, but had to admit defeat to Emma Stone (“Poor Things”). Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Case” – the film for which Hülser was nominated – won best non-English language film.

Paul Giamatti won best actor for his role in “The Holdovers.” The tragicomedy by Alexander Payne (released in German cinemas on January 25th) was able to secure trophies in other categories. “Barbie” also won several times, including the award for best original screenplay (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach) and best comedy.

In the TV categories, the hyped production “Succession” won the award for best drama series and in several other categories. “The Bear” also won awards in several categories.
