The groundbreaking 1982 film Tron was set in a cyber world long before the digital age. After “Tron: Legacy” (2010), another sequel is now being filmed – with Jared Leto as the star.

Oscar winner Jared Leto (52, “Dallas Buyers Club”) gets his fans in the mood for his next science fiction project. “Are you ready?” wrote the actor on Instagram alongside a first photo of his character Ares in the black cyber outfit from the film “Tron: Ares”. He also announced the film for 2025.

Leto represents an AI figure from the digital world with the task of injecting artificial intelligence into humanity. In addition to Leto, Jodie Turner-Smith (37, “White Noise”), Greta Lee (40, “Past Lives”) and Evan Peters (37, “Dahmer”) also star in the Disney production.

Filming under the direction of Joachim Rønning (“Pirates of the Caribbean – Salazar’s Revenge”, “Maleficent 2”) has started in Vancouver, Canada, reported the industry paper “Hollywood Reporter”.

In the groundbreaking 1982 original film Tron, Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner played programmers in a cyber world long before the dawn of the digital age. The duo appeared in the sequel “Tron: Legacy” in 2010 together with Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Leto, who has long been confirmed as the main actor for the planned third part, is also on board as a producer. He won an Oscar in 2014 for his supporting role in the AIDS drama “Dallas Buyers Club.” Most recently he appeared in films such as “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, “House of Gucci”, “Morbius” and “Haunted Mansion”.
