The Golden Globe Awards will be presented again in January. This time, however, the glamorous gala will not be broadcast on long-time house broadcaster NBC – and there are other changes.

The Golden Globe Awards have found a new broadcaster. The 81st awards ceremony on January 7, 2024 is scheduled to be broadcast live from CBS will air and stream on Paramount+, the awards show announced.

The show had previously been on NBC for decades. But the Globes’ long-time house broadcaster canceled the traditional TV broadcast in 2022 after controversy. The reason for this was, among other things, massive criticism of the small foreign press association (HFPA/Hollywood Foreign Press Association) because of a lack of diversity and questionable practices.

Trophies in two additional categories

As part of reforms, the Globe distributors elected a new board and made the membership larger and more diverse. Last January, NBC broadcast the 80th awards gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills again, but no longer-term TV commitment was made.

In June, investment firm Eldridge and Dick Clark Productions (DCP) acquired the HFPA assets. The Golden Globe film awards, which have been awarded by Hollywood-based foreign journalists since the 1940s, will now be continued by a private, profit-oriented organization.

Recently, the publishers of the film and television awards announced that they would award trophies in two additional categories in 2024. The new divisions are “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement” in the film sector and “Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television” in the television sector. The nominations in all divisions are to be announced on December 11th.
