Holidays in Brittany: At the end of the world – Travel

The rough Atlantic affects everything in Brittany: the weather, the food, the barren landscape. A journey between stone wonders and mighty nature.

The end of the world is at its best. The sea is smooth, the gray stone houses of the village of Le Conquet shimmer on the shore in the morning haze, here in the Brittany department of Finistère. Finis terrae, end of the world, is what the Romans once called this region in northwestern France. The Atlantic stretches out to the west. With enormous tides: the water rises and falls by around ten meters within a few hours. A wild thing. But on this day, when crossing to the island of Ouessant, you don’t feel much of it. The sky is blue, the thought of an end of the world far away.
