Immersing yourself in another world with a good book on holiday – for many people that is true relaxation. Here’s some inspiration.

Finally time to read again! For many people, vacationing without appropriate reading is unimaginable. With these (audio) books we send our heads on a journey and discover new worlds.

“The Lord of the Rings”: Fantastic classic for a Middle-earth marathon

First stop: become middle! Together with Frodo and his companions, the radio play “The Lord of the Rings” takes you to Mount Doom and against the dark ruler Sauron. However, listeners should bring some time with them for the epic: the saga set to music by JRR Tolkien (1892-1973) lasts 756 minutes. The same applies to the audio book “The Hobbit”. In it, Gert Heidenreich takes you into the fantastic prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” and takes fantasy friends along to the adventures of the hobbit Bilbo, the wizard Gandalf and the dwarf Thorin Eichenschild.

If you prefer to read about the Tolkien world than hear about it, we recommend the works as an e-book – in paper form, Frodo and Co. weigh a little too much for the suitcase.

“Bridgerton”: Regency romance for fans of Mr. Darcy

The historical series “Bridgerton” inspires with love turmoil à la Jane Austen. These are also available in book form. Julia Quinn’s series will entertain those who have followed Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy on their rocky journey. In “The Duke and I”, Daphne Bridgerton, wearing a corset and with a lot of stubbornness, dances her way into the heart of an aristocrat who is unwilling to marry.

The modern Jane Austen blend may lack depth. Regency romance always ensures a fun and sunny afternoon by the pool.

“Signs of Death”: Breton Nights with Inspector Dupin

In his eleventh case, Inspector Dupin has to deal with “signs of death”. On the grounds of an abbey steeped in history, he and his team search for the reasons behind the death of an 89-year-old woman.

The cult series “Breton Nights” once again takes the reader to Brittany – and to unusual bird sightings. A solid crime thriller penned by Jean-Luc Bannalec.

“The Forger of Memories”: A journey into the past

Abbas Khider’s novel is about memories, deceptive and not so deceptive. “The Forger of Memories” describes the journey of the character Said Al-Wahid to his homeland of Baghdad. His mother is dying there. The closer he gets to his family, the deeper the memories go back: arriving in Germany, fleeing for months and childhood in Iraq.

But which memories are made up and which are falsified?
