Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn: fiber optics almost everywhere – district of Munich

Telekom wants to expand the fiber optic network almost everywhere in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn and at its own expense. By the end of 2025, 98 percent of all addresses in town would be connected, said Uwe Zwick, who is responsible for economic development in the town hall. Negotiations were made with several providers and ultimately the decision was made in favor of Telekom, since their expansion plans would not entail any civil engineering costs for the community or house connection costs for the owners. However, the latter would have to notify the group of their interest in a fiber optic connection in good time. “That’s why my appeal to everyone is: when it starts, get in touch,” said Zwick in the municipal council. “Because what you have, you have – and it costs nothing.”

According to Zwick, the expansion will take place in two phases. From May 2023 until the end of 2024, Telekom will initially focus on the center of the municipality. In a second step, the western part of Höhenkirchen and the eastern part of Siegertsbrunn are to follow immediately and by the end of 2025. From September, Telekom will start advertising and information events, said Zwick. Then interested parties could also contact the company. The business developer emphasized that households that order a fiber optic connection from Telekom do not necessarily have to become a customer of the group. Rather, one could also choose another provider who would then cooperate with Telekom and use their network. “Increasing digitization shows how important fast and stable internet connections are for us,” Mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD) commented on the plans. “We are pleased that the fiber optic expansion in our community is creating sustainable conditions for work and leisure.”
