The German hockey women finished the preliminary round at the European Indoor Championships in Berlin as league leaders.

The German hockey women have reached the preliminary round of the European Indoor Championships Berlin finished as league leaders.

The defending champion also won the fourth and final group game against Belgium 5:3 (3:2). “We’re very happy, we’re getting better from game to game and we’re now in a good place,” said Hamburg’s Laura Saenger, who scored four goals.

Elisa Gräve had already given the Germans the lead after just 26 seconds before Saenger (13th/15th minute) made it 3-0 with her penalty corner double strike. Belgium got within 2:3 before the break, but Saenger (30th/penalty corner/37th) scored again to make it 4:2 and 5:2. Belgium’s Marie Ronquetti (40th) got the final score with the final penalty corner.

This means that national coach Dominic Giskes’ team will face Austria in the semi-finals this evening (8 p.m.), who had previously separated 1-1 (1-0) from the other group winners from Poland.
