Hochtief subsidiary builds football stadium in New York – Economy

The Düsseldorf construction group Hochtief is one of the big players in the industry, and the Germans are also familiar with stadiums. Because the American subsidiary Turner has already built large and well-known arenas in the USA, for example in New York. Among other things, the US company was responsible for Yankee Stadium in the district, home of one of the most famous baseball teams ever. Turner also built the famous Madison Square Garden, as well as a number of other stadiums in the USA.

The Hochtief subsidiary has now received a new and sensational order. Turner builds the first football-only stadium in the US East Coast metropolis for the New York City Football Club. Turner was selected as the general contractor for the planning and construction of the arena. According to Hochtief, there should be room for around 25,000 spectators. The project has a volume of around 780 million dollars. From 2027 onwards, the ball should be rolling in the stadium. In addition, 2,500 apartments, a school with 650 places and a hotel are to be built in the building in the New York borough of Queens. The stadium is entirely privately funded. More than 14,000 jobs are to be created during construction, and 1,500 permanent positions as soon as it is operational, Hochtrief said.

Turner is “the right partner for the vision of a world-class stadium,” said Brad Sims, head of the New York City Football Club. The stadium is being planned by the architects’ office HOK. Soccer is not as important in the USA as it is in Europe or South America, other sports such as baseball, football or basketball dominate in the public interest of US fans. But there have long been efforts to increase the importance of football.
