Back to a world that really once existed: historical films are fascinating because they take us back to real times with their stories, people and scenarios. Ideally, the filmmakers succeed in doing what seems impossible to the common history teacher – making the past comprehensible and tangible, whether based on real historical events or just based on structures and events of the time.
In addition to classics like “Schindler’s List”, “Titanic” or “12 Years a Slave”, which are based on formative historical facts, there are now a lot of good historical films on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Co. that provide the best entertainment with added value for knowledge.
