Historic cycle track in Nuremberg: Court stops tree felling – Bavaria

The Ansbach Administrative Court has temporarily stopped the tree felling work at the historic cycle track in the Reichelsdorf district of Nuremberg. The decision stipulates that “all tree felling work must be stopped” until a court decision is made. The Federal Nature Conservation Association had requested the stop. After the city granted approval for the construction of a residential area, the first trees were felled on Thursday morning; according to the Reichelsdorfer Keller citizens’ and historical association, there were several dozen by Friday.

According to a member of the association, the police were called on Friday morning and the court order was presented before the work was stopped. A spokesman for the executing project developer explained that the next steps had to be legally examined in consultation with the city. However, it can be assured that everything that is imposed by the court will be adhered to: “We respect that.” The plans for a neighborhood on the site of the historic railway are considered controversial. In anticipation of their demolition, the plans were given the negative title “Demolition of the Year 2022” by the State Association for Homeland Care.
