Historian Christopher Clark spoke in Berlin about the 1848 revolution – culture

This year, the commemoration of the 1848 revolution will revolve around Frankfurt’s Paulskirche, the seat of the first freely elected pan-German parliament. The emphasis will be on the first attempt at a democratic constitution and less on the associated question of a possible national unity of Germany. And again one will lament the separation of democracy and national movement in Germany caused by the failure of the revolution.
