“I would say yes to everything Chris offers with my eyes closed because I have absolute confidence in him,” says Cillian Murphy. I think that’Oppenheimer is his best film. He is at the top of his game but is still as nice as ever. The actor, well known for the series Peaky Blinders, cheek Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb which gives its title to the film. Accessible and fun
“Chris knows what he means to actors,” says Emily Blunt, who is working with him for the first time. He is aware that he can be intimidating and therefore does his best to make you feel comfortable. The actress is full of praise for the director. “I’ve never met such a focused and precise director,” she says. It is rare to find a filmmaker who is both a visionary and a great director of actors. He likes being told jokes and gossip! she continues enthusiastically.
Precise and focused? It’s not surprising… But funny? This is not the impression that the filmmaker gives either in his filmography, or in an interview where he is fascinating but chilling! “Christopher Nolan is very funny in life, I assure you! adds Matt Damon, who had already worked with the director on Interstellar. The atmosphere is very relaxed on its sets. He puts himself at the service of the actors while directing them in a very sharp way. He is absolutely not the genius locked up in his creation that one might imagine. He reminds me of Francis Ford Coppola who also knows how to relax actors. »
Emily Blunt confirms her partner’s analysis. “Chris likes to tease you and he enjoys being teased back!” she insists. People who don’t know him have no idea how funny he can be. Perhaps he will one day make the public benefit from his humor by signing a slapstick comedy but, for the moment, it seems difficult to imagine.
